Taj Hotels to Debut in Guwahati with New 250-Key Luxury Property
The luxury hospitality brand Taj Hotels is set to enter the market in Guwahati with the development of a new 250-key hotel, marking the brand’s debut in the capital of Assam. The project has been announced by Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), one of India’s leading hospitality groups.
The agreement for the project was signed in the presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, highlighting the importance of the development for the region’s tourism and hospitality sector.
Hotel Development and Facilities
The upcoming Taj property will include the renovation and repositioning of approximately 150 existing rooms, along with the addition of 100 new rooms, bringing the total inventory to 250 keys.
The hotel will be located in a prime area of Guwahati on a land parcel of more than nine acres, offering a mix of hospitality and lifestyle amenities designed for both business and leisure travelers.
Planned facilities for the property include:
-
Multiple specialty restaurants
-
Large banqueting and meeting spaces
-
Wellness amenities including the J Wellness Circle spa concept
These features are expected to position the hotel as a major luxury hospitality destination in the region.
Strengthening IHCL’s Presence in Guwahati
With this new Taj development, Indian Hotels Company Limited will expand its footprint in Guwahati to five hotels, including several properties currently under development.
The project reflects the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in emerging tourism and business markets across India while strengthening its luxury hospitality portfolio.
Outlook for the Hospitality Market in Northeast India
Industry observers believe the new Taj hotel will support the growth of tourism, corporate travel, and large-scale events in Guwahati. As the gateway to Northeast India, the city is increasingly attracting investments in hospitality infrastructure and tourism development.
The addition of a flagship Taj property is expected to enhance Guwahati’s positioning as an important hospitality and travel destination in the region.
