The Fern Residency Chandrapur Signs 57-Room Hotel
The Fern Residency Chandrapur signs a 57-room hotel, strengthening The Fern Hotels & Resorts’ footprint as its 46th property in Maharashtra.
CHANDRAPUR, May 23, 2026: The Fern Hotels & Resorts has signed The Fern Residency Chandrapur, Series by Marriott, adding a 57-room property in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region to its development pipeline and taking its total Maharashtra portfolio to 46 operational and upcoming properties.
Developed in partnership with SS Developers, the Chandrapur signing extends The Fern's presence into one of Maharashtra's industrially significant interior cities, where demand for branded, professionally managed hotel accommodation has grown alongside the area's established mining, energy and manufacturing economic base. The property is scheduled to open in December 2029.
Project details: 57 rooms, dining and event facilities
The Fern Residency Chandrapur will offer 57 rooms and suites alongside an all-day dining restaurant, a conference room and a banquet hall serving meetings, corporate events and social gatherings. The facility mix reflects the primary demand drivers expected in Chandrapur, business travel from the city's industrial and government sector activity, and social events drawing on the local and broader Vidarbha population.
The property carries the Series by Marriott designation, connecting it to Marriott International's global distribution network and the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme while preserving The Fern's brand identity and operational character.
Maharashtra remains The Fern's most active expansion state
The Chandrapur signing follows The Fern's earlier announcement of dual Maharashtra signings that took the group's state portfolio to 45 properties, and reflects a sustained pattern of quarterly growth in the state. Maharashtra now represents the single largest state-level portfolio in The Fern's national network, with 46 properties either operational or in the pre-opening pipeline.
Suhail Kannampilly, Managing Director of The Fern Hotels & Resorts, said the group sees continued opportunity across Maharashtra's emerging cities as business activity and travel demand expand beyond the state's primary markets of Mumbai and Pune. "Maharashtra continues to be an important market in our expansion strategy, driven by growing business activity and evolving travel demand across emerging cities," Kannampilly said. "The signing of The Fern Residency Chandrapur, Series by Marriott aligns with our vision to strengthen our footprint in high-potential destinations while delivering quality hospitality experiences that cater to the evolving needs of today's travellers."
Owner-partners cite brand reputation and sustainable hospitality values
Sandeep Banthia and Suresh Kumar Chordia of SS Developers said their decision to partner with The Fern Hotels & Resorts was shaped by the brand's operational reputation and its public commitment to sustainable hospitality practices, values that align with the ownership group's vision for the property in Chandrapur.
"We are delighted to partner with The Fern Hotels & Resorts for The Fern Residency Chandrapur, Series by Marriott," Banthia and Chordia said. "With The Fern's strong brand reputation, operational expertise and commitment to sustainable hospitality, we are confident that this collaboration will establish a distinguished hospitality offering in Chandrapur and provide guests with a memorable stay experience."
Chandrapur: an industrial city with a growing hospitality gap
Chandrapur is located in eastern Maharashtra near the Telangana border and serves as the headquarters of Chandrapur district. The city is home to one of Maharashtra's largest thermal power plants, significant coal mining infrastructure and a range of related industrial operations. That economic base generates sustained corporate travel demand that the existing hotel inventory, largely limited to unbranded and small-format properties, has not fully absorbed.
The Fern Residency Chandrapur will open as the city's first branded hotel under a major international framework, positioning The Fern to capture first-mover advantage in a market that other operators have yet to address with a comparable product.
