Uzbekistan and China Expand Silk Road Tourism Cooperation

XI’AN, May 25, 2026 - Uzbekistan and China have expanded tourism cooperation through new discussions focused on premium hospitality investments, transportation infrastructure and Silk Road-themed tourism projects. The agreements were discussed during the third Uzbekistan-China Interregional Forum held in Xi’an.

The meetings involved Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee and several Chinese tourism, hospitality and infrastructure companies exploring long-term partnerships aimed at increasing inbound tourism and improving tourism services across Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan and China Expand Hospitality Investments

During discussions with Chinese tourism companies, Uzbek officials explored opportunities to attract high-end travelers and expand investment in four-star and five-star hotels across the country.

According to tourism representatives, Chinese investors expressed interest in managing premium hospitality properties targeting business and luxury travel segments.

Tourism analysts say international investment in Uzbekistan’s hotel sector continues supporting modernization efforts as the country strengthens its position along regional tourism corridors.

The cooperation also aligns with Uzbekistan’s strategy to improve tourism infrastructure and diversify visitor markets through stronger partnerships with Asian economies.

Transport Projects Support Tourism Growth

Meetings with transport and infrastructure companies also focused on improving tourist mobility through expanded bus services and technical support facilities for transportation fleets.

Preliminary agreements include plans for a dedicated service center in Uzbekistan supporting tourist buses produced by brands such as Yutong, Golden Dragon and King Long.

Industry experts say transportation upgrades remain essential for improving visitor access to tourism destinations and supporting regional travel growth.

Officials noted that stronger transport systems will help create smoother travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors exploring Uzbekistan’s cultural destinations.

Silk Road Tourism Projects Gain Momentum

The forum also included discussions about thematic and cultural tourism development linked to the historic Silk Road.

One proposal involves exploring a Silk Road-themed tourism park near Samarkand inspired by a similar attraction in Xi’an developed by Shaanxi Tourism Group.

Tourism officials said such projects could strengthen family tourism, cultural tourism and regional visitor flows from Asian markets while enhancing Uzbekistan’s tourism identity.

Hospitality analysts say integrated development involving hotels, transport systems and cultural attractions continues becoming central to tourism growth strategies across Central Asia.
