Fertitta Entertainment Acquires New York Restaurants in $22M Bid
Fertitta Entertainment acquires New York restaurants Café Fiorello, Trattoria Dell'Arte and Bond 45 after a $22.237 million bid. Closing is set for Oct. 30.
Rows of tables sit behind green planters and low barriers, and a glowing sign above them spells out Fiorello. Two diners wear masks and read quietly at their tables. The image appears to date from an earlier time, but it shows the place at the centre of the story of how Fertitta Entertainment acquires New York restaurants.
Houston's Fertitta Entertainment, the parent company of Landry's, Inc., was chosen as the winning bidder for three restaurants from Fireman Hospitality Group. Chron food reporter Chyna Blackmon reported the news on October 23, 2026. The deal is not yet final. It is subject to court approval and other conditions.
How Fertitta Entertainment Acquires New York Restaurants in Court
Court documents obtained by Chron show that FHG Acquisition, LLC, an affiliate of Fertitta Entertainment, won an auction on Oct. 5. Its bid included $22.237 million in cash, plus other consideration. That $22.237 million restaurant bid covers substantially all of Fireman Hospitality Group's ongoing operations.
The agreement was filed on Oct. 20 and sets Oct. 30 as the closing date. Nation's Restaurant News first reported that the Fireman group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August. That was nearly a year after founder Sheldon Fireman's death. This Fireman Hospitality Group bankruptcy is what put the restaurants up for sale.
Which Restaurants Go Where
The win does not mean Fertitta Entertainment will run the whole Fireman group. A Landry's spokesperson told Chron the company is buying only the flagship locations of three restaurants. They are Café Fiorello New York, Trattoria Dell'Arte and the Bond 45 restaurant. All sit in New York.
The spokesperson said the restaurants will stay open and continue as normal. For regulars, that is the key line. The deal changes the owner, but the doors are meant to stay open.
The other concepts go to a different buyer. Brooklyn Diner, Brooklyn Delicatessen, Paris Bar, Le Jardin and Cafe Paradiso are going to Jeff Crivello of Ciao Hospitality Group. He was a co bidder in the auction. Crivello told Chron he also plans to keep his restaurants as they are.
He said the three restaurants Fertitta got were the ones he wanted. That detail matters because it shows two bidders each chose the pieces they valued most. The split was a division, not a fight over the same prize.
A Growing Portfolio
Tilman Fertitta, who is U.S. Ambassador to Italy, leads Fertitta Entertainment. Chron describes the move as another step in his East Coast growth. The win comes two months after the company announced plans to buy Boston's Union Oyster House. That restaurant is the oldest known operating restaurant in the country. This Union Oyster House acquisition and the New York bid point in the same direction.
Together, they make a clear pattern of Fertitta Entertainment expansion into famous dining rooms in the Northeast. The Landry's Inc expansion also shows how a large Houston company can use a bankruptcy sale to gain well known names. The Tilman Fertitta restaurant acquisition story is therefore as much about reputation as about real estate.
What It Means for the New York Restaurant Industry
Bankruptcy sales can protect jobs and keep restaurants open. They can also change menus and teams over time. The report promises normal operations, but it does not describe future plans for any of the three restaurants. No staffing details were shared.
For the wider New York restaurant industry, the case shows how thin margins can threaten even famous names. The same pressure runs through the report on Restaurant Reservation Cancellations, where owners describe costs rising faster than guests' loyalty.
A Fair Look at the Deal
A careful reading is useful. The report is based on court documents and statements from a Landry's spokesperson and Crivello. It is not a final sale. Court approval is still needed, and closing could change if conditions are not met. The value of "other consideration" was not given.
The report also does not explain why the Fireman group failed, beyond the dates. The photograph shows Café Fiorello with barriers and masks, so it is not a current view. The facts that matter are clear. A winning bidder was chosen, and the closing date is Oct. 30. If approved, Fertitta Entertainment acquires New York restaurants that diners have known for years.
What a Famous Name Carries
A restaurant with a long history carries more than a menu. It carries regulars, habits and a place on a street corner. Changing hands tests whether those things survive.
That is the real question as Fertitta Entertainment acquires New York restaurants with deep local roots. Guests will not read the court papers. They will notice whether the table is the same, the welcome is warm and the sign above the door still glows.
