HYDERABAD, June 19, 2026 — Authorities seized around 110 kg of adulterated chicken and food materials from an unlicensed godown in Hyderabad’s Charminar area during a surprise inspection Friday, officials said. The operation also uncovered reused cooking oil and artificial colours in food products stored under unsanitary conditions.

A joint team of the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST) and Food Safety Officials conducted the raid at the premises of Al Akbar Fast Food and Godown in New Laad Bazar, Panch Mohalla, Hussainialam police limits, after receiving credible information about alleged unsafe food handling practices. The establishment was operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence, police added.

Adulterated Chicken and Unsafe Practices Uncovered

During the inspection, officials found approximately 110 kilograms of fried chicken that had been prepared using reused oil and artificial food colours. The team also seized about 90 litres of loose cooking oil in several tins and banned food colouring substances that were allegedly being used to enhance appearance.

Officers noted that food items were being stored and prepared under unhygienic conditions that posed potential health risks to consumers. Evidence pointed to multiple violations of food safety norms, including lack of water quality certification and absence of basic sanitation protocols.

Apprehensions and Legal Action

Two individuals linked to the operation were detained during the raid. Police registered a case under relevant food safety and public health laws, and further investigation is underway to identify the supply chain and distribution network of the seized materials.

The crackdown reflects intensified efforts by food safety authorities and law enforcement to curb adulteration and protect public health. Officials have urged residents to report suspected violations to local food safety departments to prevent unsafe products from reaching consumers.
