Mabry Mill Restaurant Sets Spring 2027 Reopening Under New Operator

MEADOWS OF DAN, Va., June 11, 2026 — The restaurant at Mabry Mill, the most photographed site on the entire 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway, is set to reopen in spring 2027 after more than two years of closure. The National Park Service announced in May that it has selected MM176, LLC for a 10-year concessions contract to provide food, beverage and retail services in the restaurant and gift shop adjacent to the historic mill at milepost 176.2 in Patrick County, Virginia.
The new operator is planning interior renovations throughout the summer and autumn of 2026, with food and retail services targeted to open to the public in spring 2027. The Parkway awarded the contract through a competitive selection process, closing a chapter of uncertainty for one of the most visited and emotionally significant stops on the Parkway for travellers and the communities that depend on it.
A Closure That Reverberated Through the Surrounding Communities
Mabry Mill's restaurant had operated as a beloved institution for generations of Blue Ridge Parkway travellers before the previous concessionaire notified the National Park Service in 2023 that it would not renew its contract. The restaurant formally closed at the end of December 2023, leaving the site without seated dining for the first time in decades. Since then, the facility had been under temporary management by Eastern National, a nonprofit partner organisation, while the National Park Service ran a competitive solicitation to find a long-term operator.
The closure sparked significant concern among businesses in Meadows of Dan and nearby Floyd, communities that depend heavily on the foot traffic and economic activity generated by visitors stopping at Mabry Mill. The mill's status as the most photographed location on the Parkway makes every season without a functioning restaurant a notable absence for visitors and a measurable economic impact for the surrounding area.
"Mabry Mill has always been one of the most popular locations on the parkway, and we know that this restaurant and retail service is very important to a lot of visitors, so we're very excited to have that back and have people be able to go to their special place again," said Rachael Treon, public affairs specialist with the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Renovations in 2026, Reopening in Spring 2027
MM176, LLC whose name is widely understood as a reference to the mill's position at milepost 176.2 on the Parkway has committed to interior renovations of the restaurant and gift shop building during the 2026 visitor season. The NPS confirmed the construction programme will have no impact on visitors to the historic mill site itself, which will continue to operate throughout the renovation period.
"We are excited to see food service return to this historic Parkway destination and look forward to working with the new operator over the next decade at Mabry Mill," said Tracy Swartout, Blue Ridge Parkway Superintendent. "The new operator's upcoming investment at the site builds on other recent investments such as the rehabilitation of Matthews Cabin and a new roof and wheel on the Mill Building."
Revenue projections for the concession, published as part of the NPS solicitation process, estimated annual revenues of between $600,000 and $900,000, with two-thirds expected from food and beverage and one-third from retail. Prior to the closure, the restaurant generated revenues of $567,493 in 2021, $671,597 in 2022 and $738,542 in 2023.
A Living Historic Site Remains Active in the Interim
While renovations proceed, the Mabry Mill historic site continues to offer visitors a full programme of educational and cultural experiences. NPS staff and volunteers are hosting blacksmithing demonstrations, music events and walking tours throughout the 2026 visitor season. Beginning June 7, the Blue Ridge Music Center is hosting Milepost Music concerts on the first and third Sundays of each summer month.
