Japan-based JTB Corp. has nominated Aomi Tomo as its next President and Chief Executive Officer, with the leadership transition set to take effect on June 30, 2026, pending shareholder and board approvals. The appointment marks a significant shift in leadership at one of the world’s largest travel companies as it continues its post-pandemic transformation.

Leadership Transition at JTB Corp.

The decision was approved during a board meeting and will be formally confirmed at the company’s 63rd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, followed by a subsequent board meeting on the same day. As part of the transition, current President and CEO Yamakita Eijiro will move into the role of Chairperson of the Board. Meanwhile, existing Chairman Takahashi Hiroyuki is set to assume an advisory position within the organisation.

New CEO’s Strategic Responsibilities

In his new role, Aomi Tomo will lead JTB’s overall business operations and strategic direction, overseeing the execution of long-term initiatives designed to strengthen the company’s global positioning. His responsibilities will include driving organisational alignment, advancing strategic priorities, and continuing efforts to reshape the company’s operational framework in line with evolving travel market dynamics.

Career Journey and Internal Progression

Aomi joined JTB in 1993, beginning his career in frontline customer service and corporate sales at the Sapporo branch. Over the years, he transitioned into various roles across human resources, sales planning, and corporate functions in Hokkaido, building a broad operational foundation within the company.

From 2007, he managed travel business marketing at the group headquarters. He later moved into corporate planning. In this capacity, he contributed to expanding JTB’s business scope, including the launch of JTB Communication Design. His career progression includes multiple senior leadership roles in strategy and business planning, reflecting consistent advancement within the organisation.

Role in Strategic Transformation and Innovation

Appointed executive officer in 2021 and later director and managing executive officer in 2022, Aomi played a central role in guiding the company through management reforms during the Covid-19 pandemic. He led the “nextender” innovation initiative, focusing on new business creation and the development of strategic partnerships.

In 2024, he took on the role of President of JTB Americas, where he worked on strengthening meetings and events as well as business travel segments. His responsibilities included overseeing mergers and acquisitions, investments, and improvements in governance and internal control systems.

Current Role and Company Outlook

Since January 2026, Aomi has been serving as Managing Executive Officer in charge of long-term vision and strategy promotion at JTB Corp., positioning him at the centre of the company’s transformation agenda. His experience in shaping strategic direction and executing organisational change has been a key factor in his appointment as the next CEO.
