CHENNAI — The Westin Chennai Velachery has promoted Shiny Cynthia Grace to Training Manager, recognising over seven years of Learning and Development experience spanning luxury hospitality, corporate insurance, government skill development and mainstream media.

Shiny Cynthia Grace Promoted to Training Manager at The Westin Chennai Velachery

In her new role, Grace leads the Learning and Development function at The Westin Chennai Velachery, a 215-room five-star property on Velachery Main Road. Her responsibilities cover talent development, training design, capability building and creating a sustained culture of learning across the hotel's teams.

She joined The Westin Chennai Velachery in April 2024 as a Training Lead and has now been elevated to Training Manager. The promotion is an internal step up earned within the same property.

A Career Across Hospitality, BFSI, Government Skills and Media

Grace's L&D career is broader than most in the hospitality training space. She established her luxury hospitality foundation at ITC Hotels in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, where she worked as a Learning and Development Specialist. That early posting gave her a grounding in how L&D operates within a high-standards luxury hotel environment.

She then moved to Holiday Inn as Assistant Training and Quality Manager, focusing on refining guest experience metrics and developing hospitality workforces. That combination of training and quality sits at the practical heart of what a hotel L&D function needs to deliver.

Corporate BFSI and Government Sector Experience Sets Her Apart

Unusually for a hospitality training professional, Shiny Cynthia Grace also spent a significant part of her career in the corporate BFSI sector. She served as Chief Training Manager at Kotak Life and as Training Manager at Max Life Insurance Company Limited. Her work at Max Life earned her the Dronacharya Award, a recognition for agent success and process improvement that reflects measurable impact rather than just programme delivery.

She also worked with Updater Services Private Limited as a Non-Domain Trainer, leading instructional modules for DDUGKY, the Central Government's flagship Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana skill development programme. Designing and delivering training at that scale, for a government initiative targeting rural employment, is a different discipline from hotel or corporate training and adds genuine instructional range to her profile.

A Career That Started in Journalism

Before entering training and development, Shiny Cynthia Grace began her professional life as a Writer and Reporter Intern at The Hindu in Madurai. That start in journalism built the communication and storytelling skills that continue to shape how she designs and delivers training content. The ability to make complex information clear and engaging is something that crosses over directly from journalism into effective adult learning design.
