Stephane Mercier Named General Manager of Pendry Tampa Ahead of Property Opening
Stephane Mercier is appointed General Manager of Pendry Tampa, bringing 35 years of luxury hotel experience across Waldorf Astoria, Conrad and Hilton brands.
TAMPA, Florida — Pendry Hotels & Resorts has appointed Stephane Mercier as General Manager of Pendry Tampa, the luxury hotel and residential development taking shape on the city's downtown Riverwalk. Mercier steps into the role well ahead of the property's planned opening, bringing over 35 years of global hotel experience across Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean.
Stephane Mercier Joins Pendry Tampa as General Manager
Mercier takes charge of a pre-opening assignment at one of the more anticipated luxury hotel projects currently in development in Florida. Pendry Tampa will deliver 220 guestrooms and 200 Pendry Residences in the heart of Tampa's Riverwalk district, alongside a three-meal restaurant, lobby bar and lounge, rooftop pool and lounge, Spa Pendry, fitness centre, the brand's Paintbox children's programme and 11,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
Getting a property of that scale and complexity ready to open takes a particular kind of leadership — someone who has done it before, under pressure, at the luxury end of the market. Mercier fits that description.
Stephane Mercier's Experience
Most recently, Mercier served as Managing Director of The National Hotel Miami Beach, where he ran the luxury boutique hotel's operations while simultaneously overseeing pre-opening planning for a new project in Marrakech, Morocco. Managing two projects at once — one live and one in development — is a level of operational demand that only a certain kind of hotel leader handles well.
Before Miami Beach, he served as General Manager of the Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead, where he led the property through its repositioning after it transitioned from Mandarin Oriental. Taking a hotel of that standing through a brand change and rebuilding its market position is complicated work, and Mercier did it at one of the American South's most prominent luxury addresses.
Stephane Mercier also ran Conrad Miami as General Manager, overseeing 205 guestrooms and suites alongside 113 branded residences — a mixed-use format that directly mirrors what he will be managing at Pendry Tampa. And he led the pre-opening and launch of Conrad Cartagena, establishing the five-star resort as a destination in the Colombia market from a standing start.
Mercier is an alumnus of Cornell University's Nolan School of Hotel Administration, one of the most respected hospitality programmes in the world.
