Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Renovation 2026: $70 Million Luxury Makeover
Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Renovation 2026 reimagines all 335 rooms, suites and villas in a US$50 million luxury makeover.
Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Renovation 2026 has returned a landmark Bangkok property to the top of the luxury market. Anantara has completed a US$50 million transformation of the storied hotel. The project reimagines all 335 guest rooms, suites and villas, along with the spa, fitness facilities and event spaces.
Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Renovation 2026 and a Storied History
The property opened in 1983 as The Peninsula Bangkok, across from the Royal Bangkok Sports Club. Bangkok was only the third city in the world to get a Peninsula, after Hong Kong and Manila. Architect George Wimberley designed the hotel with grand proportions and an imposing lobby.
Its time as a Peninsula was brief. It became The Regent Bangkok in 1985, and Four Seasons took over management in 1994. It was renamed Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok in 2003 and became Anantara Siam Bangkok in 2015. The Peninsula name returned to the city in 1998 on the Chao Phraya River.
New Rooms, Villas and Suites
The original bones remain, including the lobby with its 100 metre hand painted mural by Thai artist Paiboon Suwannakudt. Nineteen ceiling panels depict the Heavens in Thai Thought. Rooms now blend teak, silk and Thai craftsmanship with contemporary interiors, and bathrooms have been rebuilt in marble.
New garden pool suites and villas bring private pools into the tropical gardens. The two bedroom Jim Thompson Explorer Suite was created with the famous Thai silk house. It takes inspiration from a Thai summer home. These upgrades place the hotel among the best luxury hotels in Bangkok.
A Low Rise Hotel in a Market of Towers
Bangkok's newest luxury hotels tend towards towers. Anantara Siam stays comparatively low rise, wrapped around mature gardens and courtyards. Its rooms and public spaces have dimensions rarely found in newer city hotels.
The city is in another burst of hotel growth, with thousands of new rooms due in the next few years. Aman Nai Lert Bangkok opened in 2025 with 52 suites. The Ritz Carlton Bangkok debuted in 2025, followed by Andaz One Bangkok. Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit opened in 2026, and The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok is next.
What More Competition Means for Travellers
Bangkok has long offered affordable luxury compared with London, New York or Singapore. That remains true, but the top end now plays in the global ultra luxury league with matching rates. Below that level, the city still has great depth of quality hotels. Established five star hotels now compete with a procession of glamorous newcomers.
Even among spectacular new towers, Anantara Siam feels like the pinnacle of Bangkok luxury again. Its space, greenery and history set it apart. Readers can find more details on the official Anantara website.
