This expansion aligns with IHCL’s broader objective of building a structured training ecosystem in emerging and underserved destinations, where tourism potential is high but access to formal hospitality training has historically remained limited. The initiative is designed to address the growing demand for skilled manpower across the hospitality sector.

Over 42,000 Youth Trained Under Paathya ESG Framework

Under its ESG+ framework, Paathya, IHCL has trained more than 42,000 youth across India, with a long-term target of upskilling 100,000 individuals by 2030. The programme focuses on equipping participants with industry-relevant skills, enabling them to access sustainable employment opportunities within the hospitality sector.

The skilling initiatives are positioned as part of IHCL’s broader approach to inclusive growth, integrating environmental, social and governance priorities into operational strategy. By linking training programmes to real employment outcomes, the company aims to create long-term value for both communities and the industry.

Focused Skilling Initiatives Rolled Out in Jammu & Kashmir

IHCL has placed specific emphasis on Jammu & Kashmir, implementing targeted programmes aimed at empowering local youth and strengthening the region’s tourism ecosystem. The company has partnered with REACHA, with support from the Indian Army, to establish a dedicated skill centre in Uri offering specialised hospitality training.

Additional collaborations include Tata STRIVE, through which IHCL is training youth in Baramulla and Kupwara in bakery and food and beverage services. These programmes are aligned with local employment opportunities, ensuring that training is directly linked to regional market needs.

Further strengthening its regional engagement, IHCL has collaborated with IIT Jammu to develop structured skilling programmes that integrate academic learning with practical industry exposure. These initiatives are designed to build a future-ready workforce while supporting socio-economic development in the region.

Hospitality Skilling Positioned as Employment Catalyst

IHCL’s skilling strategy positions hospitality training as a key driver of employment generation and social transformation. By creating accessible training ecosystems and fostering partnerships with institutions and organisations, the company aims to expand livelihood opportunities for youth across India.

The focus on Jammu & Kashmir reflects a broader effort to integrate local communities into the tourism value chain. By equipping youth with relevant skills, the initiatives are intended to support the region’s tourism growth while enabling long-term career pathways within the hospitality sector.

IHCL Portfolio and Expansion Context

IHCL operates a diversified portfolio of hospitality brands spanning luxury, upscale, and lean-luxe segments, with a presence across multiple markets. The company currently has 628 hotels, including 255 in the pipeline, across four continents, 14 countries and over 250 locations.

Founded by Jamsetji Tata, IHCL continues to expand beyond traditional hotel operations into broader hospitality and community-driven initiatives. Its skilling programmes form a key component of this strategy, supporting both operational growth and social impact objectives.

As the hospitality sector continues to evolve, IHCL’s investment in workforce development highlights the increasing importance of structured training ecosystems in sustaining industry growth and ensuring long-term resilience.
