Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella Hotel Renovation: A Golden Return
Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella Hotel Renovation brings back a 1962 icon with a kids club, Racket Club, rooftop dining and 195 rooms.
Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella Hotel Renovation has brought one of the Costa del Sol's most storied hotels back to life. Los Monteros first opened in 1962. It closed in late 2022 for a full refurbishment. It reopened in February 2025 under IHG's Kimpton brand. Owners Bain Capital and Stoneweg backed the project.
Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella Hotel Renovation Honors a Golden Past
The hotel became a fixture of Marbella's golden age. It was the first hotel in Spain to win a Michelin star. Its tennis courts once hosted international competitions. The Los Monteros Marbella Hotel sits on the calmer eastern end of the Golden Mile. It is about 500 metres from the sea and close to the Sierra Blanca foothills.
The redesign was split between two studios. El Equipo Creativo of Barcelona handled the public spaces. Its work draws on Andalusia's landscape and light. Terracotta, geometric pattern and greenery run through corridors and gardens. Cristina Carulla Studio took the 195 rooms and around 60 suites. It chose natural materials and colour over a neutral luxury look.
Marbella Luxury Family Hotel With Room to Roam
This is a big property. It has three buildings and more than 5,000 square metres of grounds, gardens and patios. It feels more like a village than a single block. Children have space to explore. Parents avoid the buzz of Puerto Banús.
The Little Monteros kids' club focuses on creative, imagination led activities. A separate babysitting service covers evenings. Children can also join tennis lessons and cooking classes. Suite guests get kids club access, airport transfers and spa discounts.
Los Monteros Racket Club Is the Headline Act
The Los Monteros Racket Club stands where international tennis fixtures once took place. It now has four clay courts with a textile membrane surface. It also offers three hard courts, six glass padel courts and a beach volleyball court. The in house Set Academy runs coaching for kids and adults. Relaxed mix in padel sessions let families play together without a lesson.
Dining, Beach Club and Wellness
La Cabane by Dolce and Gabbana is a short walk away. Chef José Carlos García oversees Jara and Escondido. Escondido is a rooftop spot with Mexican inspired food, cocktails and sea views from the infinity pool. Azul Lounge Bar keeps a name from the hotel's earlier days.
The hotel has outdoor pools and a renovated indoor pool heated to 33°C. Guests can also visit the Spa by Maison CODAGE Paris or the fitness centre. Santa Clara Golf and Marbella Golf and Country Club are nearby. Dogs stay without an accommodation charge. An on site Orlebar Brown boutique helps with forgotten holiday clothes.
Day Trips Near the Hotel
Artola Cabopino offers protected dunes and coastal walkways. Parque Arroyo de la Represa has a playground and ponds near the old town. The hotel works because every family member can choose their own version of a Marbella holiday.
