KATRA, May 29, 2026: Lords Hotels & Resorts has launched Lords Inn Katra, a 45-room property in the heart of Katra, Jammu & Kashmir, strategically positioned near the Vaishno Devi shrine, one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in India. The property is designed to serve both devotional travellers undertaking the Vaishno Devi yatra and leisure guests exploring the wider Jammu & Kashmir region, with a focus on comfortable, well-serviced accommodation that reflects the spiritual character of the destination.

Katra is not a market where demand needs to be created. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine draws in excess of 10 million pilgrims annually, one of the highest footfall pilgrimage sites in the country. The constraint in the market has never been visitors. It has been the availability of quality branded accommodation that can serve the volume of inbound guests with reliable standards, consistent service and the kind of facilities that pilgrims and family travellers increasingly expect alongside the spiritual purpose of their visit. Lords Inn Katra is entering that gap.

Lords Hotels Launches Lords Inn Katra as Part of Its Spiritual Destination Expansion Strategy

Pushpendra Bansal, Chief Operating Officer of Lords Hotels & Resorts, was direct about both the significance of Katra as a market and what the group is committing to deliver there.

"Katra, one of India's most prominent spiritual destinations, attracts millions of devotees and travellers every year. With Lords Inn Katra, we are pleased to strengthen our presence in the region and offer guests a comfortable stay experience backed by Lords' signature hospitality and service standards. We thank our partners for their trust and look forward to welcoming travellers to the heart of Katra."

Vikas Suri, Vice President at Lords Hotels & Resorts, placed the Katra launch within the company's broader strategic intent around India's pilgrimage tourism segment.

"Spiritual tourism in India continues to witness strong and sustained growth, and Katra remains a key destination within this segment. Lords Inn Katra reflects our strategic focus on expanding across high-potential pilgrimage and leisure markets while delivering warm hospitality and enriching guest experiences."

The phrase "strong and sustained growth" reflects a market reality that has been building for several years. India's spiritual tourism sector has benefitted from improving infrastructure , better roads, expanded rail connectivity, enhanced air connectivity to Jammu, as well as a growing domestic middle class that is increasingly travelling to pilgrimage destinations with higher expectations for accommodation quality than previous generations. Lords Inn Katra is calibrated to that evolving guest profile.

Kumar Roushan on Jammu & Kashmir as a Long-Term Growth Market for Lords Hotels

Kumar Roushan, Senior General Manager of Development and Pre-opening, positioned the Katra opening as an explicit statement of confidence in Jammu & Kashmir's hospitality growth trajectory.

"The launch of Lords Inn Katra marks another important milestone in strengthening our footprint in Jammu & Kashmir. We see significant growth potential in the region and remain committed to expanding our presence while creating quality hospitality experiences for travellers visiting these destinations."

— Kumar Roushan, Senior GM – Development & Pre-opening, Lords Hotels & Resorts

The reference to significant growth potential in Jammu & Kashmir more broadly, not just in Katra, signals that this property is likely the beginning rather than the full extent of Lords Hotels' ambition in the union territory. Jammu's commercial base, Kashmir's leisure tourism appeal and the pilgrimage circuit that anchors demand in Katra together create a hospitality market with multiple distinct entry points for a brand that has demonstrated willingness to go into spiritual tourism destinations ahead of the market's full maturity.

A 45-Room Property Built Around the Pilgrim and Family Traveller

Lords Inn Katra's 45 rooms are designed to offer comfort and convenience for guests who are, in most cases, in Katra for one or two nights before or after the Vaishno Devi yatra, a journey that begins at the base camp in Katra and involves a trek of approximately 14 kilometres to the shrine. The hotel's location in the heart of Katra gives guests walking access to the base camp registration area and the town's food and retail infrastructure, while the property's dining facilities and amenities provide a comfortable recovery and preparation environment for the physical demands of the trek.

The property also serves family groups and leisure travellers who use Katra as a base for wider exploration of the Jammu region, Patnitop, Sanasar and Mansar Lake are within reach, and the broader connectivity improvements to Jammu have made the region more accessible from major Indian cities than it has historically been.

Lords Hotels Deepens Its Spiritual Destination Portfolio Across India

Lords Hotels & Resorts has been building a consistent presence across India's pilgrimage and spiritual tourism markets alongside its broader hospitality portfolio. The Katra launch follows recent expansions, including a property in Lucknow and hotels across Karnataka's leisure destinations. The pattern reflects a deliberate commercial strategy: go into markets where branded accommodation supply is undersized relative to genuine demand, and position the Lords brand as the reliable, quality option for the traveller who needs a hotel rather than a dharamshala but does not require a five-star product.

Katra fits that thesis precisely. The demand is captive, consistent and growing. The supply of branded, professionally managed accommodation at the right price point has lagged. Lords Inn Katra addresses that directly, and if the Jammu & Kashmir growth potential Kumar Roushan described materialises as fully as the regional trajectory suggests, it is unlikely to be the group's last address in the union territory.
