NIPS Hospitality Hosts New Zealand Recruitment Drive in Kolkata

KOLKATA, May 20, 2026: NIPS Hospitality Group received an overseas delegation of hospitality employers from New Zealand at its Kolkata campus last week, hosting a structured recruitment and career orientation programme aimed at connecting Indian hospitality students with international work placements through New Zealand's Student and Trainee Work Visa route.

The visit, organised in partnership with Vira International and its Auckland-based placement associates, marks a step by one of eastern India's established hospitality training institutions to formalise a direct overseas employment pipeline for its graduating students.

What the recruitment session involved

The programme went beyond a standard campus interaction. Students underwent structured interviews and skill assessments, and recruiters evaluated candidates on communication ability, technical knowledge, professional conduct and operational readiness for international postings.

Participants came from four disciplines: Culinary Arts, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operations and Housekeeping, covering the core functional departments that overseas hospitality employers typically recruit from at the trainee level.

Internship pathway via New Zealand work visa

Students selected through the process will access international industry exposure in New Zealand through the Student and Trainee Work Visa route, a regulated pathway that allows hospitality trainees from overseas to undertake supervised work experience with approved employers.

The arrangement positions NIPS as a feeder institution for overseas employers seeking trained hospitality talent, while giving students from eastern and northeastern India a direct route to an international placement without the need for independent immigration consultants.

Founder cites shift in scope of hospitality careers

Dr. Vivek Pathak, Founder-Director of NIPS Hospitality Group, said the industry has moved far beyond its traditional hotel-sector boundaries over the past 30 years, expanding into aviation, cruise lines, tourism management, luxury services and international hospitality operations.

"At NIPS, our focus remains on preparing students not only academically but also professionally and personally so that they can confidently compete on global platforms," Dr. Pathak said.

NIPS operates across four eastern and northeastern campuses

NIPS Hospitality Group currently runs campuses in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Shillong, a footprint that spans West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Meghalaya. The multi-campus presence gives the institution access to a wide student base across states that have historically seen limited direct international recruitment activity in the hospitality sector.

The New Zealand engagement adds an international dimension to a group that has built its reputation primarily by preparing students for placements within India's domestic hotel industry. Whether the institution plans to host delegations from additional countries was not announced at the time of the event.
