THSC enters final selection phase for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 hospitality competition candidates
Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council enters final phase to select Indian candidates for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 hospitality competitions.
The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) has entered the final phase of selecting Indian candidates for the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition, officials said in March 2026, with shortlisted participants undergoing advanced assessments across hospitality skill categories to determine national representatives for the global event.
THSC confirmed that the final selection stage is being conducted at designated evaluation centres in India, where candidates are being tested on technical competencies, operational efficiency and industry-standard service procedures relevant to hospitality roles.
Final selection process underway
Officials said the final phase includes practical assessments, simulated service environments and technical evaluations aligned with WorldSkills international competition standards. Candidates are being judged on performance criteria including precision, time management and adherence to operational protocols.
The assessment process is being overseen by certified experts and industry professionals appointed by THSC, ensuring that evaluation benchmarks match global competition requirements. Scores from this stage will determine the final team representing India.
Participants shortlisted for the final round had progressed through regional and national-level competitions held earlier, according to the council.
Skill categories and evaluation criteria
The selection process covers multiple hospitality skill categories, including food and beverage service, culinary arts and hotel reception. Each category has specific task modules designed to test real-world job functions.
THSC said candidates are required to demonstrate both technical skills and soft competencies such as communication, problem-solving and customer service. Evaluation parameters are aligned with WorldSkills frameworks to ensure consistency with international standards.
Assessors are recording performance data across multiple rounds to ensure objective scoring and ranking of candidates.
Preparation for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026
Selected candidates will undergo further training and mentorship programs before representing India at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. THSC said training modules will focus on refining technical skills and preparing participants for global competition conditions.
The council added that training will include exposure to international best practices, simulated competition scenarios and guidance from industry experts. Preparations are expected to continue until the competition schedule is finalised.
Officials said the initiative aims to enhance India’s performance in global skill competitions and promote professional standards in the hospitality sector.
Institutional role and industry participation
THSC, operating under the National Skill Development framework, is responsible for coordinating India’s participation in hospitality-related skill competitions. The council works with training institutes, industry partners and government bodies to identify and develop talent.
Industry stakeholders have participated in the selection process by providing technical expertise, assessment support and training infrastructure, according to officials.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen workforce capabilities in the tourism and hospitality sector through structured skill development programs.
Current status
The final selection phase is currently in progress, with results expected to be announced following completion of assessments. THSC said the selected candidates will proceed to advanced training programs as preparations begin for India’s participation in WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
