As the hospitality industry continues to spotlight professionals who strengthen organisations through effective people management, nominations for the HCP Human Resources Award 2026 – The People’s Choice for Hospitality Excellence have drawn attention to several emerging HR leaders. Among this year’s nominees is Rohit Raj, Assistant Manager – Human Resources at The Chancery Hotels, Bengaluru.

With close to six years of experience in hospitality human resources, Rohit Raj has built a strong foundation in HR generalist functions, employee relations, payroll coordination, compliance, and workforce development. A postgraduate in Human Resource Management, he combines operational discipline with a people-centric approach to HR leadership.

Currently serving in a Head of Department role at The Chancery Hotels, Bengaluru, Rohit plays a key role in directing HR operations, aligning people practices with brand standards, and supporting department heads in achieving employee engagement and service excellence goals. Having joined the organisation as an HR Executive and progressed to Assistant Manager, he has been instrumental in implementing HR policies, managing payroll and attendance systems, ensuring statutory compliance, and strengthening employee communication channels.

His responsibilities include end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, performance management, grievance handling, disciplinary processes, benefits administration, and legal compliance. Rohit has also been actively involved in payroll coordination using STAR and PRISM systems, along with biometric and attendance management. During the COVID-19 period, he contributed to maintaining employee morale and engagement through structured connect initiatives, reinforcing trust and transparency within the workforce.

Prior to his current role, Rohit was associated with ITC Limited – WelcomHotel Bengaluru, where he supported HR generalist functions and played a key role in corporate audits, documentation, statutory registrations, and compensation administration. His early hospitality exposure includes operational and HR roles with Shangri-La Hotel Bengaluru and ITC Windsor, giving him a comprehensive understanding of hotel operations and people management.

Academically, Rohit holds an MBA in Human Resources and Marketing and a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management. His technical proficiency includes HRIS platforms, payroll software, biometric systems, and advanced reporting tools, enabling him to support data-driven HR decisions.
