Dame Therese Walsh has been appointed Chair of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 Tournament, bringing extensive governance and major event experience to the role.
Dame Therese Walsh Named Tournament Chair
Walsh is a respected leader in both business and sports administration in New Zealand. She currently serves as Chair of Air New Zealand and ASB Bank and previously held roles as Chair of TVNZ and Director of New Zealand Cricket.
Her experience in global sporting events includes playing a key role in the delivery of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2015, which was co‑hosted by Australia and New Zealand, as well as the 2011 Rugby World Cup held in New Zealand.
As Chair, Walsh will oversee the tournament board comprising the Chairs and Chief Executives of both Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket, along with independent director Peter Varghese AO, Chancellor of The University of Queensland and a former senior Australian diplomat.
Joel Morrison Appointed Chief Executive Officer
Joel Morrison has been named Chief Executive Officer of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 Local Organising Committee. He joins the role from Cricket Australia, where he currently serves as Executive General Manager of Events and Operations.
In that position, Morrison led the strategy and delivery of international cricket events in Australia during a period that saw record attendance figures.
His previous experience includes serving as Chief Executive Officer of Northern Territory Cricket, interim Head of the Big Bash Leagues, and working on major global tournaments such as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and the 2014 ICC T20 Champions League.
Preparing for the Largest Southern Hemisphere Cricket World Cup
The 2028 tournament is expected to be the largest cricket World Cup ever staged in the southern hemisphere. Organizers aim to showcase both Australia and New Zealand as premier hosts of global sporting events while strengthening cricket’s global reach.
