Taj Dubai has appointed Somanna Vanchira as Director of Security, strengthening its leadership in safety and risk management. With over 15 years of experience within the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), Vanchira brings institutional expertise, operational discipline, and experience in handling high-risk and high-profile situations.
Role and Responsibilities as Director of Security
In his new role, Somanna Vanchira will oversee all aspects of security operations at Taj Dubai. His responsibilities include ensuring the safety of guests, employees, and assets, while maintaining compliance with established security protocols and international standards.
The role requires managing crisis response mechanisms, supervising surveillance systems, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a secure environment. He will also be responsible for implementing preventive security strategies and ensuring preparedness for emergency situations.

Somanna Vanchira’s Career Progression within IHCL
Somanna Vanchira’s career has been built entirely within the IHCL ecosystem, beginning in 2010 at Taj West End Bengaluru as a Security Officer. His early progression was marked by rapid advancement, moving to Security Executive within a year and later being appointed Security In-Charge by 2013.
He subsequently took on the role of Security Manager at Taj Kovalam, where he served until 2016. His experience also includes assignments across IHCL properties in Bengaluru, including Vivanta by Taj Residency Road and Taj MG Road, where he handled security operations in similar leadership capacities.
In 2023, he returned to Taj West End Bengaluru as Director of Security and was promoted in 2024 to Cluster Security Director, overseeing operations across 10 IHCL hotels. This role involved managing multi-property security frameworks and coordinating large-scale operational strategies.
Somanna Vanchira: Professional Expertise and Training
Somanna Vanchira holds a Master of Arts degree along with a Postgraduate qualification in Criminology and a Diploma in Disaster Training. His professional development is supported by specialised training in firefighting and Krav Maga, equipping him with both technical and tactical expertise in security management.
His experience includes handling complex, high-pressure scenarios requiring precision and discretion. Over the years, he has managed security arrangements for Head of State visits, VVIP movements, celebrity engagements, and international cricket teams, demonstrating his ability to operate in sensitive and high-visibility environments.
His approach to security combines structured planning with adaptability, ensuring effective response mechanisms across diverse operational situations.
