Surender Kumar, General Manager of Hotel Suncity Mall in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, has been nominated for India’s 50 Best General Managers 2026, according to an announcement made in April 2026. The nomination recognises his role in overseeing hotel operations, revenue management and guest service delivery at the property.

Nomination and Current Role

The nomination acknowledges Kumar’s current position as General Manager at Hotel Suncity Mall, where he has been serving since February 2024. The property includes 30 rooms, a bar, specialty restaurant, fast food outlet and two banquet halls.

According to the company, he is responsible for managing overall hotel performance, coordinating departmental operations and ensuring adherence to service standards.

Operational Responsibilities and Scope

Kumar oversees daily meetings with departmental managers, monitors operational challenges and ensures resolution of guest service issues. His role includes maintaining occupancy levels, driving sales and managing profit and loss performance.

The company said he also liaises with external agencies including labour authorities, municipal bodies and regulatory departments, while supervising vendor selection and procurement processes.

Leadership and Functional Expertise

He leads staff training, performance appraisals and operational coordination across departments to maintain service consistency. His responsibilities include conducting monthly staff meetings, handling corporate business and implementing marketing initiatives to support brand positioning.

Kumar is also involved in developing internal systems and procedures aimed at improving operational efficiency and maintaining guest satisfaction standards.

Career Background and Industry Experience

Kumar has more than 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry, with expertise in food and beverage operations, hotel management and banquet services. Prior to his current role, he served as Assistant General Manager at Erica Hotel & Resort from 2021 to 2024.

He also worked as Food and Beverage Manager at Hotel JD Heaven Jhajjar between 2020 and 2021, managing restaurant and banquet operations, along with earlier roles as Restaurant Manager overseeing multi-outlet operations.

Early Career and Professional Background

Kumar began his career in hospitality with Radisson in New Delhi, working in kitchen operations and progressing through operational roles. His experience includes consulting assignments involving the setup of cafés, restaurants, banquet facilities and food service operations in Chandigarh.

He holds a qualification in Hotel Management in Catering and Applied Nutrition Technology from the National Council of Hotel Management, Pusa, New Delhi, the company said. The India’s 50 Best General Managers 2026 awards are currently in the nomination phase, with candidates under evaluation. The process is ongoing.
