Turkish Court Overturns Bankruptcy Ruling Against Onur Air

A court in Türkiye has overturned a previous bankruptcy ruling issued against former low‑cost carrier ONUR air, introducing new developments in the airline’s long‑running legal and financial situation.

The decision reverses an earlier court judgment that had formally declared the airline bankrupt and initiated liquidation procedures. The overturned ruling means the case will require further legal review before any final determination on the company’s insolvency status is made.

Onur air was once one of Türkiye’s prominent private airlines, operating charter and scheduled flights primarily from . Founded in 1992, the carrier expanded rapidly during the 2000s with a fleet mainly composed of Airbus aircraft serving domestic and international leisure routes. 

However, the airline faced significant financial pressure in recent years, particularly after the COVID‑19 pandemic severely impacted travel demand. Operations were suspended in 2021 and the carrier later lost its operating licence from Turkish aviation authorities.

The original bankruptcy ruling had triggered liquidation proceedings aimed at selling the company’s remaining assets and settling outstanding debts with creditors and former employees.

With the latest court decision overturning that judgment, the legal process surrounding remains ongoing, and further hearings are expected to determine the next steps for the defunct airline.
