Air India’s chief executive Campbell Wilson has described the airline’s ongoing transformation as entering a decisive phase, comparing it to a key moment late in a long cricket match.

Wilson said the airline has moved past the early rebuilding stage and is now focused on execution. This includes improving operations, upgrading aircraft interiors, strengthening service standards, and fixing systems that affect daily performance.

Since returning to the Tata Group, Air India has launched a wide‑ranging overhaul covering fleet renewal, network expansion, staffing, and customer experience. While progress has been made, the airline continues to face challenges linked to ageing aircraft, supply delays, and operational reliability.

The CEO noted that results will not appear overnight and that consistency is now the main priority. Delivering steady improvements, rather than quick wins, is seen as essential for restoring passenger confidence.

Air India’s leadership believes the coming period will determine whether the carrier can successfully complete its turnaround and establish itself as a strong global airline once again.
