Directorate General of Civil Aviation Names Vir Vikram Yadav as Director General

Senior bureaucrat Vir Vikram Yadav has been appointed as the Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in March 2026 in New Delhi, India, the government said, tasking him with overseeing the country’s aviation safety, regulatory compliance, and operational standards amid continued growth in air traffic.

Appointment to Lead Aviation Regulator

The appointment was confirmed by the central government, placing Yadav at the helm of India’s primary civil aviation regulatory body. The DGCA is responsible for regulating air transport services, enforcing safety standards, and overseeing licensing for airlines, pilots, and aircraft maintenance operations.

Yadav succeeds the outgoing chief and assumes charge at a time when India’s aviation sector is witnessing expansion in passenger traffic and airline operations.

He has previously held positions in government departments where he managed large-scale operations and public sector initiatives.

The appointment comes as India continues to position itself as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, requiring strong regulatory leadership to ensure safety and operational stability.
